Team Roles

Mission Enabler

Revd James Tomkins is Mission Enabler for the Team. James writes:

A number of people have asked me how my mission enabler role will work within the Risborough Team. In essence it’s about being with people in the community, sharing and showing the love of Christ for all. Jesus said that “where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them” recognising that the Church is a gathering of people meeting in different places at different times. A small part of my role may see me in traditional Church buildings, but I hope most of it will be in schools, youth groups, nursing homes, work places and other centres of community where people have the opportunity to learn more about Jesus and his love for each individual person. Much of this is already being done by clergy within the team but the half time nature of my role within Monks Risborough gives me greater freedom and flexibility to do this.

Working with all of the team clergy, other ministers in and around Risborough and people from different congregations the idea is that “fresh expressions” of Church can be built. These may be very different to what we may traditionally regard as Church but each will aim to allow people to express their faith in a way that is appropriate and relevant to them. We’ll have to wait to see how this exactly takes shape in practice, but in the coming months I hope to explore this role with all PCCs and listen to what is going on within the Risborough Team.
